  • Sit

  • Down

  • Drop it

  • Settling on a mat

  • Coming when called

Why are these skills beneficial?

Teaching good manners to dogs is highly beneficial as it equips them with the necessary skills to navigate various situations effectively and safely. These skills serve as the foundation for addressing common behavioral challenges such as jumping on people, door bolting, stealing food off the dinner table, pulling on leash, and more. By instilling manners such as polite greetings, impulse control, and loose leash walking, dogs learn to engage in appropriate behaviors, reducing the likelihood of unwanted incidents and promoting positive interactions with people and other animals.

Furthermore, manners training plays a crucial role in keeping dogs safe by helping to prevent potential emergency situations. For instance, teaching a dog to wait at doors and not bolt out can prevent accidents such as traffic-related injuries or getting lost. Similarly, training dogs to leave items they encounter on walks or in the home reduces the risk of them ingesting harmful substances, such as medication or toxic substances, which could lead to serious health complications.
